 Director's Statement My primary goal as a filmmaker is to tell a compelling story. I believe the artist's task is to open him or herself up, to listen, to explore and essentially act as a conduit for the story. To me, the purpose of art is to engage the audience in an exciting and complex way so that they might ponder their own lives and the world in which they live in a deep and thoughtful manner. Perhaps they might even question the decisions, actions, or lack of action they make in their own lives and be inspired to change or make change in the world. I feel very privileged to have been able to make Left Field. The connection I made with the subjects and crew of the film and the gracious way they allowed me into their lives changed me. The love and trust they shared with me allowed me to grow as an artist and a person. I am forever grateful. - Benjamin Steger |
